Explore your inner playground by embracing new experiences.

Updated: Apr 16

This morning at Happy Rascal Ranch began with unexpected events as we arrived in the quiet landscape of Peña Blanca, New Mexico. I was accompanied by two dear friends, both of whom hold a special place in my heart. Together, we ventured into this charming sanctuary, surrounded by a friendly cat, horses, spirited donkeys, and even a curious cow, all of which welcomed us into their world. Although we were unsure of what to expect, we were open to having an enriching experience with each other and the horses.

As we settled into a corral on the ranch, we immersed ourselves in a unique experience—sitting in meditation amidst the gentle movement of the animals and the sounds of nature. Under a partly cloudy sky, we sat in a circle, sharing our energy and intentions with our gracious hosts, Clea, Brian, and Sally, who possess a remarkable talent for creating an atmosphere of peace and connection. We participated in group exercises to connect with our heart space, focus on our breath, and cleanse our bodies.

None of us knew exactly what to expect from this day. However, as the hours passed, something magical began to unfold. The energy flowing between us and the gentle creatures felt transformative, especially during the final group exercise. We had the opportunity to engage with the horses in a meditative manner. One horse approached me and nuzzled my head as if to give me a big hug while I sat in the circle. A friend of mine also had a beautiful moment connecting with a horse as they established a heart-to-heart bond.

By the time I returned home, I experienced an overwhelming sense of tranquility. As Brian aptly described it, I was in a parasympathetic state—a blissful calm that lingered like the gentle afterglow of meditation, filling me with the energy of the horses.

Upon arriving home, I noticed that I continued to yawn as if my body was still releasing built-up energy. Taking the dogs for a well-earned walk, I reveled in the crisp air that refreshed my senses, with the wind touching my spirit. I usually hold back on sharing my more personal experiences, but this day felt immensely special. By being willing to step into the unknown, I created cherished bonds—not just with my friends but also with a majestic horse, a cat, and an affectionate cow, each moment inviting a deeper connection within myself.

So often, the fear of stepping outside our comfort zones prevents us from experiencing the richness that the world has to offer. The rewards of such adventures can resonate deeply within us. It felt as though I had undergone a complete system reset at just the right moment, with my mind and body aligning in a harmonious state.

Spending time with like-minded individuals in a nurturing space designed for healing is a magnificent gift. We shared our thoughts, feelings, and observations of these creatures, as well as our breath, as we came together for this outward journey, ultimately encouraging many of us to delve deeper into our own inner selves. It was a profound awakening that I will carry in my heart for a long time to come.

What do you stop yourself from doing or experiencing because of the unknown? What holds you back? Life is meant to be engaged with, to dive into, and to learn about yourself through new experiences.

The fear of engaging with others often stems from a vulnerability within ourselves. We may worry about what others might think or feel, and we tend to want control over all of life's situations. When we step outside our comfort zones, we often feel discomfort at first, but by allowing and being non-attached, we provide ourselves with the expansive nature of growth.

By overcoming our fears, our resistance, and our roadblocks, we allow ourselves to explore, connect, and become a new aspect of who we are. What is something you have wished or hoped to do that remains unchecked on your ever-growing bucket list? Can you give yourself permission to try, to do something different, and to explore the inner playground of your internal self?

What will your first step be?

Allow yourself to step through the threshold of your life experiences and witness them unfold.
